How it works
Three steps, and only the first one needs you to stand outside.
Take one photo from the sidewalk
Phone held level, the whole front of the house in frame with both the roofline and the ground visible. Overcast or just before sunset is ideal — flat light works far better than hard sun. Don't step back for a prettier wide shot; a slightly cramped, slightly off-centre frame is exactly right.
Tell us what you'd light
Roof edges, windows, the bushes out front, the walk, the columns, the door — whatever you'd actually put lights on. You don't need to measure anything. We work the quantities out from the photo and tell you what we assumed.

The picture is the easy part
Anyone can show you a picture. The list under it is the part that saves you a second trip to the hardware store.
Quantities for your house
Not “you'll need some C9s”. Four strings, because the gambrel edge is 36 feet and the porch edge is another 42, and each is its own run at 25 feet a string with slack for the corners.
The amp maths
A 15-amp circuit carries 1440 watts continuously, not 1800. We add up what you're hanging, check it against that, and check each chain against the manufacturer's own end-to-end limit — which is the number nobody reads and the one that matters.
What it takes to hang
Roughly how many hours, and which runs are step-ladder work versus extension-ladder work. If your main roofline is twenty feet up, that's worth knowing before the boxes arrive, not after.
The things people forget
Clips that actually fit the bulbs you picked — a mini-light clip won't hold a C9 — plus enough outdoor cord to reach a real outlet, and a timer so you're not doing it by hand every night.
What we're not going to pretend
- The pictures are generated from your photo. They show the look, not the exact products — the shopping list is the part to trust.
- We measure off a photograph, so the numbers are close, not surveyed. Check them against your own tape measure before you buy.
- We're new at this. If a list is wrong, tell us and we'll fix it and tell you what we got wrong.
Your photo is used to make your pictures and nothing else. It isn't sold, it isn't used to train anything, and it's deleted with your results after 60 days. Your results live at a private link that nothing indexes and no tracker touches.
